‘Money’ Ranks Stanislaus State Among California’s 10 Best Colleges

Magazine’s Analysis Highlights Access, Success and Upward Economic Mobility

When ranking California’s premier institutions of higher education in 2022, MONEY magazine includes Stanislaus State among the state’s Top 10 crème de la crème universities.

To produce its ranking of the Golden State’s 10 best colleges, the magazine looked at the top-scoring schools on both its main ranking of 623 colleges and its selective colleges list of 48 schools. The separation allows the main list to focus on the schools most students can attend, according to the magazine.

That analysis placed Stan State in California’s top 10 along with Stanford University, UC Berkeley and UCLA.

“At Stan State, we are proud to be a student-focused university that is deeply committed to supporting our students and positioning them for success,” said President Ellen Junn. “This ranking, which places our institution among the best in the state, is evidence of how well we accomplish this.”

MONEY wrote of the University: “Stanislaus State is an affordable college that enrolls a high number of students from lower-income backgrounds. One of the reasons it scores high in MONEY’s rankings is because it serves those students so well. Our analysis finds the University’s graduation rate is 14% higher than predicted based on colleges with similar student bodies.”

MONEY first announced its 2022 rankings last May and named Stan State No. 19 nationally on its “Best Colleges in America” list. Its national list was compiled by ranking schools on criteria within three categories: quality of education (30% of weighting), affordability (40%) and outcomes, including employment and earnings after graduation (30%).

The magazine gave Stan State an overall score of 81.37, conferring points for affordability, a high acceptance rate, small class sizes, a favorable faculty-to-student ratio and a graduation rate of 67%, which is 14% higher than the expected rate for colleges with similar student body demographics.

Over the years, Stan State has consistently received high rankings from MONEY with inclusion in the magazine’s top 10 “Most Transformative Colleges” list and within the top 50 in the “Best Colleges for the Money” category.
